Releases: Phantom Records HB-10579 (USA, 2/17/1976) Track(s): A1. Happy Birthday USA (3:19) - Cusano/Wolff [LYRICS] | [MP3] B1. The Exorcism of Kazcnyz (2:46) - Wolff/Sprigg [LYRICS] | [MP3] On what may be Vinnie's first professional recordings, Vinnie teamed-up with David Wolff to write a novelty song in honor of the American bicentennial celebration of 1976. David would later be the manager and partner of Cyndi Lauper. According to Vinnie, "in 1975 I had a record deal. One shot single on Windfall Records. One shot. It was called 'Happy Birthday U.S.A.' It was a rock 'n roll Bicentennial song. And his manager Bud Prager heard the song I did and said, 'Ah man, I've got to put this out.' And you know I was real.... I had no experience. And Mick Jones was the second guitarist for Leslie West at the time" (REH ProTalk w/ Steve Rosen, 1988). This single is easier to obtain as a promo without the advant-garde B-side. Facts:

All Over Now (3:46) - Parris Recorded at Conneticut Recording Studios, Bridgeport CT and Gold Star Studios; Lead vocals by Fredericke Lee Parris; Album includes a re-recorded version of Fred's Five Satins 1956 hit, "In The Still Of The Night." Vinnie was doing session work at this studio at the time of the recording of this album, so his specific recording contributions are not specified on the credits. He is mis-creditted on the album as "Vinnie Casano" (see the credits). It's seems likely that any session work was restricted to the songs recorded at CRS (A1, A3, A4, & A5) since the others seem to date from early 1975 while the rest seem to date from the end of that year and the following. An extended disco version of A1 exists from 12" singles. Facts:

Light-Pop's Principle (2:53) - Nyro [MP3] B4. Child In A Universe (4:09) - Nyro B5. The Nest (2:27) - Nyro [MP3] Engineered by Dale Ashby, Pop Ashby, and Frank Koenig. Vinnie shares guitar duties with John Tropea (see the credits). Felix Cavaliere from Treasure on keyboards/piano on tracks B2 & B5. One possible assumption is that John handled the acoustic and rhythm tracks and Vinnie the electric guitars not discounting that Vinnie had jammed with Laura as early as late-1976. However, as a caveat to the below, it is probably dangerous to pidgeon-hole Vinnie into "electric" only considering the eclectic mix of his 1970s sessions (hence B1)! {opinion} Track A1 is primarily acoustic, so probably not; Track A2 is more upbeat, but nothing screams Vinnie; Track A3 seems like a possibility; Track A4 is piano accompanyment only, so no; Track A5 seems like a possibility; Track B1 seems like a possibility; Track B2 seems like a possibility; Track B3 seems unlikely; Track B4 seems unlikely; Track B5 seems like a possibility. Speedball (Live) (08:57) "Speedball Jam" was the title of a Vinnie Invasion instrumental which was recorded live in the studio and played live on occasion. This CD, with one long 71 minute track is an analog transfer of a Vinnie warm up session, with some very wild shredding. Sound quality wise, it wouldn't have been too difficult to take out the analog hiss without losing the sound depth. And there is no reason why it couldn't been tracked properly. I've added the tracking in an effort to differentiate the different parts of the recording. The live version closes the CD. Facts: |
